Preformed Thermoplastic
Preformed Thermoplastic
Preformed Thermoplastic (or simply “preform”) is a material that consists of lines and shapes that can be designed and molded into a particular shape or design. This material is best used on concrete where thermoplastic will not adhere.
Examples of preform markings include white/yellow road lines, crosswalks, stop bars, and symbols such as arrows, bike riders, and pedestrians.
Preform is available in a variety of colors and sizes that meet MUTCD standards, and we offer custom preform designs as well!
Application process
If we are working with a new concrete surface, the concrete must be cured for at least 40 days. If we are working with existing concrete, the area must be pressure washed. In both cases, the surface must be completely clean prior to preform application. Our experienced crews will typically use a blower or a wire brush to make sure there is no residual concrete dust.
A primer is laid down, followed by the preform shapes. The shapes are assembled, measured to meet standards, and laid down to create the desired pattern or shape. These shapes are applied by heat.
