Thermoplastic Striping

Thermoplastic and green MMA bike lanes in downtown Atlanta, GA

Thermoplastic striping

We provide many road and parking lot marking solutions at Big Apple Services. For asphalt or road surfaces (not concrete), thermoplastic striping is the most durable material. We take pride in detail-oriented work, and our crews can provide lines, double lines, skip lines, stop bars, arrows, and more with thermoplastic.

Thermoplastic is a plastic material made of pigments, filler, binder and glass beads. The pigment creates the color, filler adds bulk, binder makes the material tough and flexible, and glass beads provide reflectivity. Thermoplastic is heated to a high temperature and creates a bond immediately after being applied to the surface. As the markings go down, glass beads are added to provide reflectivity. The material cools and dries quickly, allowing roads and parking lots to be reopened to traffic quickly.

Why choose thermoplastic?

Durability: Thermoplastic is designed to be thicker and last longer than paint. The unique blend of materials combined with specialized application creates a long-lasting bond that is more resistant to fading, cracking, and skid marks when compared to other painting methods. Extra skid-resistance is a must in high traffic areas!

Visibility: The glass beads used during application provide built-in reflectivity, making thermoplastic more noticeable than traditional paint. Thermoplastic striping is required marking material for most major roadways in the southern United States.

Quick dry time: The extra step of heating the material does not extend project time because the paint sets quickly without losing texture, color, durability, or finish. We are able to reopen portions of your property as we work, reducing our impact on traffic flow.

Enhanced safety: Thermoplastic markings are highly reflective, allowing for optimal visibility during dark or wet conditions when visibility is poor, keeping drivers and pedestrians safe.

Thermoplastic striping removal

If your property has existing thermoplastic striping that is faded or needs a new layout, we can remove thermoplastic markings by grinding or hydroblasting (using water to remove paint or thermoplastic without damaging the surface of the area).

Your Big Apple Services sales representative will make recommendations for the best course of action for your property. They can measure quantities via satellite image or meet with you for a walk-through. Our sales reps may also perform a site visit to assess the overall condition of your property before providing an estimate.
